Catfish hunting birds

A new study published in PLoS One has revealed that the Wels catfish (Silurus glanis) is successful at hunting birds on the shore. The research found the catfish was able to catch a pigeon 28% of the time, out of 45 observed beaching behaviors.

The researchers say, "Since this extreme behavior has not been reported in the native range of the species, our results suggest that some individuals in introduced predator populations may adapt their behavior to forage on novel prey in new environments, leading to behavioral and trophic specialization to actively cross the water-land interface."

Catch your worms with Walnuts Peels

Walnut peels contain a lot of tannic acid which create a panic reaction by worms. You just have to put about 20 peels of fresh walnuts into 20 liters of water and squash the peels in the water a bit. To wear gloves is necessary if you don't like to get brown hand's for several days.

Bring the water out in the area you expect the worms. After rain the effect is more efficient.

Than you just wait for some minutes and the worms jump to the surface of the ground.

Rare deep sea fish washes ashore on North Carolina coast.

A rarely seen deep sea fish washed up on the beaches of North Carolina on Monday, MyFox8.com reported.

A Lancetfish, which is known for its large mouths and sharp teeth, was found on Nags Head Beach. The report said these fish can grow to 6 feet 6 inches in length, but little is known about their biology.

Daryl Law, who sent the photo to the station, said the fish was released live after being photographed.

WISTV.com reported that the photographer had to release the fish twice, because it washed up to shore again, leading the observers to assume the fish is ill.

This monster size zander was caught in Italy. Angler Dino Ferrari was fishing on River Po when caught this world record size fish. The weight of this fish wasn't reported but for sure up to 22 lb - 10 kg.

Barbel fishing with Cheese.

I know many fishermen are going to catch Barbel's with Worm's and Maggot's. That works of course, but thats not my way to target Barbel's.

My favorite fishing bait is Cheese. Especially Leerdamer Cheese is a magnet for Barbel, but Gouda and Edamer Cheese will do the job too.

Cut the Cheese in cubes of 10 to 15mm and fit your hook in the center of the cube. The hook should be hidden in the Cheese. By different fishing contest's with angler friend's the Cheese bait was the winner all time. The last contest ended after 8 hours 87 : 4 , Cheese vs Worm's & maggot's. My friend just sit 10 meters away and cast in the same Spot.That's target Barbel fishing indeed. Good luck.
